This past week many of us got to experience something truly amazing- a full lunar eclipse. We gathered with family and friends, grabbed our special eclipse glasses, and watched as the moon slowly covered the sun for about 3.5 minutes. It was remarkable to watch as things went dark and cooled off, at three o’clock in the afternoon! I was personally surprised by the majesty of it. What an experience!

I thought about the power of God. What amazed me so much was the fact that we can predict when an eclipse will happen years into the future. We knew exactly when it would occur- and it did! There is so much order to the universe! The laws of nature hold things together from the moon and sun down to gravity or the mechanics of the smallest atoms. All of this points to a great Creator. It’s a world full of order that is designed to provide a home for the people of God- us! And we see this power and majesty of God everywhere we look throughout creation!

This reminds me that God is faithful. It’s hard to physically see God’s faithfulness sometimes, but on Monday it was in full view for millions across our nation. God spoke the universe into being and it is still obeying the word of God. The eclipse reminds us that God is faithful and trustworthy to keep his word. We can depend on him! Here’s a perfect Scripture below to reflect on from Psalm 113:1-6...

Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord, you his servants; praise the name of the Lord.

Let the name of the Lord be praised, both now and forevermore.

From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets,

the name of the Lord is to be praised.

The Lord is exalted over all the nations, his glory above the heavens.

Who is like the Lord our God, the One who sits enthroned on high,

who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth? (NIV)
