Is it okay to want more of God? I’m pondering this because I certainly desire more of God and his work in my life! Is that selfish?

I think it may be the opposite. Wanting more of God is not saying we want more stuff from God. Together, we are seeking God himself. We want to know him and invite him into every part of our lives. Blessings may come as part of that, but we must be careful about just seeking the blessings. The greatest blessing is knowing God!

Do you feel worthy? Probably not. It’s okay. If we look at ourselves, it is true that we aren’t worthy. However, we are loved and chosen. This is God’s idea. He made the first move to remove sin and restore us from the effects of sin.

Did you catch that? He doesn’t just forgive our sin- he wants to restore us from our brokenness. He has chosen us for this! It’s his idea!

In the story of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15), the older brother stays at home like a “good boy,” yet he doesn’t realize all that is available to him. He still has an orphan mindset and is jealous of the gifts the father has his brother. “His father said to him, ‘Look, dear son, you have always stayed by me, and everything I have is yours.”

Hear the Father saying, everything I have is yours.

Jesus also said to his disciples, “You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it! (John 14:13-14). Then later Paul prays for his church in Ephesians and says, “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20).

The point I’m trying to make is that you have permission to seek more of God. Run after him! He is your inheritance! You don’t have to feel like you are begging for this, instead we can come boldly before him like children. He’s invited us. He welcomes us!

Let’s turn to the Father together and expect more!
