Spring is in the air! Weather in Indiana can be a bit crazy sometimes, as we’ve seen lately. One thing I enjoy is that each season is so different and distinct. Soon, trees and flowers will be bursting forth with the lush green of springtime. Whenever this happens, I think of the verse where God says, “I am doing a new thing!” (Isaiah 43:18 NIV) Or another one where God says, “I am making all things new!” (Revelation 21:5).

God does make things new! He is life and whenever he is around, things spring to life! The old is made new again. Broken things are recreated and restored.

But sometimes death has to come first.

Wintertime may present challenges for us, but it’s an important part of how plants grow. For many seeds, the freezing and thawing of winter is needed to soften or break open the shell so that a new plant can emerge in the spring. For others, that period of being dormant is a time of rest and preparation. They are storing energy in anticipation of warmer weather!

I’ve noticed that we also go through seasons in our lives. We have periods of time when new things are happening and stretching us! Then, at other times we rest and refuel, preparing for what may be next.

It may be easier to know what season the weather is in, but more difficult to know what season we are in with Jesus. Pray and ask the Lord about this. Are you in a season of growth and challenge, or is it a time to pull back and rest? Sometimes, it’s hard to slow down and refuel, but we have to remember that those quiet times are essential for healthy growth- both for the plants and for us! Just get ready... springtime is coming!
